Kuni Mikami - Bryant Park


I have known Mr. Mikami for a number of years, first meeting him at three day affair featuring many artists at City College.  The affair was a financial disaster but it was an artistic achievement which has not been duplicated. We had, just to name a few performers, Guy Davis son of Ossie and Ruby Davis, a young actress and singer from Roots II, an African Dance troupe, and making an appearance and accompanying some of the singers was Mr. Kuni Mikami.. Later I found that he had studied with the maestro Barry Harris and was a part of the Lionel Hampton Big Band.

This was to be my introduction to Kuni, and over the years I promised myself to find a venue which would showcase his great talent.  Hoping that this summer that will come true!

In the meantime, I would like to present some of the pictures and a short video from his recurring appearance in Bryant Park. 







 I wanted to show you a short clip from that afternoon, as Kuni Mikami tickles the ivory..

Tao Of Events - New Amsterdam Music Association - Photo Shoot with Okaru Hoshino-Lovelace

  Photoshoot with  Okaru Hoshino-Lovelace I n March 2023, we were fortunate to meet the Jazz singer and songwriter Okaru Hoshino-Lovelace. As we communicated we decided to meet and do a photoshoot. Since Ms. Hoshino-Lovelace was in Harlem we talked with the President of NAMA or New Amsterdam Music Association and she was gracious enough to allow us complete access to the music floor of the Association. We first went outside to do a photo with Okaru in front of NAMA, then we went inside and started to work. The following pictures were the result: We didn't stop here, we decided to do an interview for AfroBeatRadio; whose creator, Wuyi Jacobs, was gracious enough to allow us to record. It was the debut of my daughter Nzingha Primus who did a yeowoman's job probing into Okaru's beginnings and how she came to her unique style of jazz.
